Shot Show 2020: the newest Spyderco knives
Shot Show 2020, an annual event in Las Vegas. Anyone who has heard of Vegas has heard of the phrase 'What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas'. This week is a massive exception. At the Shot Show brands and designers show off their newest products and talk about their plans for the future. One of these brands is Spyderco. We stopped by to find out more about what great things they have in store for 2020. Enjoy!
Spyderco Bombshell C250GTI Flash Batch
The Spyderco Bombshell is a unique knife. Designed by world-famous knife maker Michael Burch. The design is typical for Burch. You can recognize his style from the high blade/handle and the round shapes. Only a limited amount of the Bombshell is produced. A Flash Batch as Spyderco likes to call it. After this Flash Batch the knife will no longer be produced. Also not as a Sprint Run edition, or with a different colour. The handle is made from green G10 and the blade is made from CPM 20CV steel. Especially the choice of steel is remarkable and difficult to find on other Spyderco knives.
Spyderco Para 3 and Manix 2 Cobalt Blue CPM SPY27-steel sprint run
For years Spyderco is known for using premium and exotic types of steel. 2020 is a special year for Spyderco. This year we saw, for the first time ever, that Spyderco developed its own type of steel in cooperation with Crucible Industries. The result? CPM SPY27-steel! A stainless steel enhanced with cobalt. For this sprint run Spyderco selected cobalt blue for the handle
Spyderco Para 3 and Paramilitary 2 CPM S45VN steel Sprint Run
One of the newest sprint runs for 2020 is the Para 3 and Paramilitary 2 with S45VN steel, and forest green G10 handle enhanced with a diamond pattern. CPM S45VN steel is a relatively unknown and new type of steel. Stronger and more corrosion resistant than S30V with a comparable sharpness retention. Compared to S35VN, S45VN retains its sharpness better and the steel is more corrosion resistant. A nice upgrade! For now Spyderco only chose two models for this sprint run. They will, however, probably add more models in the future!
Spyderco Siren C247GP Salt collection
With the new Siren Spyderco decided to expand the popular Salt collection. A collection of knives specifically designed for humid circumstances. Like close to the sea, in the snow or kitchen. This knife collection is characterized by the use of completely stainless steel H1-steel and the relatively new LC200N steel. This is a remarkable corrosion resistant type of steel that retains its sharpness well. The handles are also corrosion resistant and light-weight. The Siren is no exception to all the above. The LC200N steel blade has a thin grind. As such the Siren is perfect for filleting fish or processing food. The G10 handle weighs next to nothing and a solid backlock locks the blade. Blue liners adorn the handle. In short: a Spyderco homerun and a great addition to the Salt collection.
Spyderco Astute C252G
The Astute is a compact EDC knife and a part of Spyderco's Value Folders collection. These are amazing pocket knives for a great price. Enhanced with G10 scales and 8Cr13MoV steel. Like the Spyderco Tenacious and Efficient. Which are also a part of this collection. The Astute is slim and looks very friendly. With a blade length of 7.7 cm this knife isn't too big, but also not too small. As such the new Astute is perfect for daily use.
Spyderco Tenacious light-weight FRN
Another new knife for 2020 is the Tenacious light-weight. We already saw it on the Para 3, the Sage 5 and now also on the Tenacious. Spyderco's famous FRN handle! It makes the knife weigh even less, and is, according to many Spyderco fans, a lot more comfortable to hold. A valuable addition to theSpyderco light-weight collection.
Spyderco Chaparral Sun and Moon C152GSM
Each year Spyderco comes up with a new handle for the Chaparral. Always breathtakingly beautiful and made from top-quality materials. This year is no exception. As the name already implies the theme for this edition is the sun and the moon. The white G10 scale with round red inlay is the sun, and the black G10 scale with mother-of-pearl inlay is the night. Combined both scales represent the yin-yang symbol. Very fancy!
Spyderco Watu C251CF
The Watu was inspired by traditional knives from the Chokwe people from Africa. The Watu, however, also borrowed a couple of the design elements from the Spyderco Chokwe. This knife was a part of Spyderco's Ethnic collection. The Watu is a little smaller and more modern in terms of design, but not any less special!
Spyderco Burnt Orange REX45-steel Sprint Run
The REX45-steel, with Burnt orange G10 handle, sprint run of 2019 was received with open arms by many Spyderco fans. It is therefore not surprising that Spyderco has chosen even more models for this Sprint run collection. Eight to be precise! The Native 5 light-weight, Native 5 G10, Lil' Native, Manix 2 G10, Manix 2 light-weight, Para 3 light-weight, Native Chief and, finally, the Shaman. Awesome!
Spyderco Slysz Swayback
Anyone who consistently follows the Spyderco forum has heard of the Slysz Swayback. A traditional swayback-style knife with a modern look and feel. Designed by the famous Marcin Slysz, who also designed the Slysz Bowie, Spydiechef and Techno 1 and 2. For years there have been rumours that the Slysz Swayback was going to be produced. To the disappointment of many Spyderco fans, however, this never happened. In 2020 Spyderco will change that fact. The Slysz Swayback will go into production at the end of January.
We hope to have all new products in stock as soon as possible. In the meantime we will be posting multiple topics about our 2020 Shot Show experiences and the newest products. Stay tuned!
