Design

Versions

There are now many different versions available in many different colours. We will tell you something about the most popular versions of this knife collection.

The Morakniv Companion

This is the basic version of the Companion. This knife is suitable for all kinds of tasks. The blade has a thickness of 2.5 mm if you choose stainless steel, and 2.0 mm if you choose carbon steel.

The Morakniv Companion HD

The Companion HD is the stronger version of the Companion. HD stands for Heavy Duty. The 3.2-mm thick blade of the HD is available in either stainless steel or carbon steel.

The Morakniv Companion Spark

The Companion Spark is there to ensure you'll never be cold in the woods again. This version comes with a firesteel in the handle, giving you the option of getting a fire going wherever you are. The Spark is available in stainless steel and has a blade thickness of 2.5 mm. The spine of the blade has a sharp, 90-degree angle to allow you to scrape the firesteel past it to create sparks. That way, you can keep the edge of the blade sharp!

Steel types

The Companion is available in two types of steel: carbon steel and stainless steel. The stainless-steel option is made form 12C27N, a steel specifically designed for knives. It is corrosion resistant and easy to sharpen, but less hard than carbon steel. Officially, Morakniv doesn't specify which type of carbon steel they used. All we know is that it's easy to sharpen and very hard. Moreover, carbon steel is generally sturdier than stainless steel. That's also why the blade of the stainless-steel version is slightly thicker than the carbon-steel version.

The tang runs through roughly three-quarters of the handle. This might be slightly less strong than a full-tang construction, but the Companion is still more than strong enough for any bushcraft task. The advantage of this three-quarter tang is that it keeps the costs a bit lower.

Handle made from rubber and plastic

The handle is made from plastic that is covered by rubber for extra grip and user comfort. Ergonomically shaped, this handle feels great in hand for all kinds of cutting techniques.

The Morakniv Companion series

Within the Companion collection you'll find the Morakniv Companion Rescue SRT knife and the SRT Safe. Both of these knives were specifically designed for rescue teams. There are also four fish knives, including two filleting knives and two knives with a ribbed spine for removing scales. Lastly, there are two more specialist knives, one meant for electricians and one Service knife for all kinds of DIY tasks. What these knives have in common is that the handle is comfortable to use even during prolonged cutting jobs. These knives are made from Sandvik 12C27N steel.

Sheath

Each Companion comes with a hard plastic sheath that is easy to attach to a belt or to your trouser pocket.
