Comes out the box sharp...convex grid...a real edge...to keep it sharp on light work just strop it...if your using for dressing more than one deer then I use a ceramic rod...3000 grit and just a couple of strokes each side...gently...this knife for the money is absolutely fantastic and is a pleasure to have on your belt....if you buy this knife to use it...you will not be disappointed....regards d
