The **Gränsfors Bruk 460 cleaving wedge** is turned with a grooved surface for extra grip, with bevelled corners and a hardened tip. A splitting wedge is used to split very large, gnarled or cross-grained tree trunks. Sometimes even several wedges are needed to split a log. You can use this wedge in combination with a splitting maul, which is suitable for steel-to-steel contact. 

**Please note:** Never use an ordinary axe to strike a wedge! Axes are not designed to withstand such forces and can therefore bend or even break. Keep in mind that striking steel on steel is never without risk. For example, a piece of steel may break off and cause injuries such as eye damage. Therefore, always wear safety goggles and protective clothing. Also ensure that the wedge and corners are properly sloped and remain free of damage.



Gränsfors axes are hand-forged by talented craftsmen. Production relies heavily on the craftsmanship and experience of these blacksmiths. What is unique about Gränsfors axes, is that each smith stamps their own initials into the axe head. This allows you to see who made your specific axe. 

In terms of steel, Gränsfors exclusively uses recycled steel from Ovako. This is a type of carbon steel, which means it is tough and hard enough for use as an axe head. At the same time, it means that the axe head is not corrosion resistant, so make sure to clean it after use and apply a coat of oil from time to time.
