This **Opinel Les Forgés bread knife** has a long, serrated blade with a slight curve. Perfect for cutting all types of bread. From hard to soft crusts, from soft buns to baguettes. But did you know that a bread knife can also be used to cut pies and cake. And that a bread knife can easily cut through hard vegetables and fruit such as melons, pumpkins and celeriac? A real all-rounded in the kitchen!

 ## Handle from beech wood

 The handle on this kitchen knife is made from stabilized beech wood. The wood is stabilized by adding synthetic resin with the help of some heat and under high pressure. By stabilizing the wood it won't be affected as much by temperature and moisture. In addition, it enables the manufacturer to add an extra colour. Opinel selected a nice, deep, dark-brown colour which makes the knife look very luxurious and unique.

 Be aware of the fact that materials such as wood have a natural variation. The knife you receive can therefore be subtly different from the product photos. The model and type of material, however, will always be the same. As such all knives are unique. This is also what makes them so special.

 ## Solid X50CrMoV15 steel

 The blade is forged from one piece of X50CrMoV15 steel that is also a part of the entire handle. As such the balance is excellent. This type of steel is stainless, wear and tear resistant and hard enough to cut and peel, for instance, vegetables, fruit or potatoes. That is why it is a popular choice for knives made in Europe.

 ## Maintenance Les Forgés

 Kitchen knives from the Les Forgés collection are not dishwasher proof. Wash them by hand and immediately dry them afterwards. The handle is waterproof. However, you shouldn't let the knife soak in water. Wash it, dry it and store it.


**Note:** the serrated edge of this bread knife is on the left side of the blade. Ideal if you’re left handed, but still just as usable if you’re right handed.

Mijn vrouw en ik verzamelen al een tijdje messen. Iets wat wij als jeugdige, verliefde tieners afgesproken hebben. Het bleek namelijk dat wij beiden hetzelfde 'knipmes' hadden, toen wij elkaar leerden kennen.
We vonden het toen erg grappig en besloten om op iedere locatie, waar wij op vakantie zouden gaan, we een lokaal mes zouden (proberen) aan (te) -schaffen. Dat is redelijk goed gelukt.
Het werd vrij snel duidelijk dat wij nagenoeg dezelfde smaak hebben (en ik schrijf 'hebben' bewust in tegenwoordige tijd want dat is, na een slordige 35 jaar, nog steeds zo).
Opinel is één van onze favorieten. Wij hebben er een leuke verzameling van opgebouwd. Van het kleinste vouwmesje, een zaag, een snoeimes, tot met de variant die je met moeite met twee handen moet optillen.
In de keuken hebben we ook een aantal messen, van verschillende makelij en uit verschillende landen. Maar we hadden nog geen echte Opinel keukenmessen. Mijn vrouw kocht een aantal maanden geleden het 'aardappelschilmesje' en een 'santoku' (uiteraard wel de beukenhouten -versie. Die is echt het fraaist).
Wat een geweldige messen zijn dit. Wij gebruiken ze bijna dagelijks en ik kan wel zeggen dat dit onze nieuwe favorieten zijn.
Heerlijk scherp, een perfecte ligging in de hand. Het beukenhout voelt  erg fijn aan en de afwerking is fenomenaal. 
Wij doen eigenlijk niet aan verjaardagscadeautjes. Ik kon mij echter geen beter excuus bedenken om op afzienbare termijn ook het broodmes aan te schaffen. Het koksmes staat ook nog op de verlanglijst.
Ik ben geen kenner of specialist maar kan Opinel van harte aanbevelen. Het zijn heerlijke messen. Je krijgt echt waar voor je geld.
