This knife is a rough version made in China of the original Old Timer , a lot thicker and much less refined craftsmanship

Handy little knife for small jobs around the house

If you are expecting the knife you receive to be in the same condition as the one in the photo you might be disappointed but you might still want to buy it based on the following potential quick fix. Before I bought mine I saw a review on Amazon.com where the buyer complained about a hairline crack on the saw bone handle next to a rivet, so I added a request to my order to check for this specific fault. When I received my knife I saw what looked like a hair-line crack in the bone at a rivet and I was about to send it back. I then noticed that the hairline extended onto the rivet, suggesting it could be a scratch being less serious than a crack. As the bolsters on the knife also had lots of fine but entirely avoidable scratches and were made of soft but solid metal, I decided to try carefully polishing out all the cracks with very fine 00 grade steel wool followed by Brasso wadding taking care not to let the Brasso liquid from the wadding seep into the bone, especially at the ends. I then gave it a quick rinse with warm soapy then clean water and quickly buffed it dry with a paper kitchen roll. This quick fix transformed the knife from one I wanted to send back to one I wanted to keep. The blades are strong and sharp and although the knife is very small, it's fairly chunky. I've, therefore, 3 stars based on my original expectations but 4/5 stars after the above fix. If I owned the company that make these knives, I would spend a relatively small amount of time and effort improving the handling of these knives to prevent the scratching at source then put the price up and still expect to make more money based on mainly 5 star reviews. If you try the above fix, you do so at your own risk but only use 00 grade steel wool and keep the Brasso liquid and steel wool dust from staining the bone handle.
