HORL: innovative knife sharpeners from the Black Forest

HORL knife sharpeners have their origins at the edge of the Black Forest. It's a family business of father and son: Otmar and Timo Horl. Otmar's idea to create a rolling knife sharpener dates back to the nineties. Throughout the years he and his son Timo designed, updated and produced this knife sharpener.

Produced in the Black Forest

At HORL they do everything themselves. From the selection of the wood to the final assembly of the sharpener. HORL selects the best wood and dries it in special ovens up to 7-8% humidity, to guarantee maximum quality. Because of the wood used and the manual labour each HORL product is unique. Of course, each product is made with the highest precision and according to high quality standards. The HORL 2 knife sharpeners are 100% made in Germany.

The HORL 3 rolling sharpener

The HORL 3 rolling sharpener is HORL's unique design. This all-round knife sharpener is truly one of a kind. With this sharpener you no longer move the knife over the sharpening stone. Instead, you pass the stone over the knife. The included magnetic base holds the knife at a fixed 15 or 20-degree angle. Thanks to these fixed angles, the HORL 3 is suited for both European and Japanese kitchen knives. The 20-degree sharpening angle is also great for most pocket knives. The HORL 3 sharpening discs can be removed to make sure you can always use the disc you need. The neodymium magnets are placed behind a layer of silicone rubber for additional grip and to protect the knife from scratches. The magnets are placed as such that even the small knives stay in place. It's simple: knives with lower blades need to be placed higher on the magnetic base. To sharpen knives with a high blade you place the knife sharpener on a cutting board or other raised surface.
