The **Gränsfors Bruk Small Splitting Axe 441, small splitting axe** is used for splitting medium-sized firewood. This axe is expertly forged and the axe head features a concave grind. This means that the edge is very thin, but further away from the sharp edge, the axe head is quite thick. This ensures that the axe head will cleaves through the wood. The thicker section behind the cutting edge then effectively pushes the wood apart, making splitting wood effortless. 

The handle is equipped with a protective steel collar under the axe head to protect the handle. In addition, the end of the handle has circular grooves for extra grip. It is important to note that this axe is not suitable for use as a wedge or for hitting a wedge with! Only the [splitting maul](/en/pt/-gransfors-bruk-splitting-maul-450.htm) is designed for this purpose! The axe comes with a high-quality leather sheath.



Gränsfors axes are hand-forged by talented craftsmen. Production relies heavily on the craftsmanship and experience of these blacksmiths. What is unique about Gränsfors axes, is that each smith stamps their own initials into the axe head. This allows you to see who made your specific axe. 

In terms of steel, Gränsfors exclusively uses recycled steel from Ovako. This is a type of carbon steel, which means it is tough and hard enough for use as an axe head. At the same time, it means that the axe head is not corrosion resistant, so make sure to clean it after use and apply a coat of oil from time to time.



The handle of this axe is made of American hickory wood, a very strong wood that is particularly suitable for absorbing blows. This makes it an ideal material for handles of axe and hammers.
