The **TOPS A-Klub Knife ALKB-0** is a large and cool machete, designed by Amanda Kaye. In the past she participated in the television show Naked & Afraid. She is known for her Native American skills. For TOPS this was the first time they were working with a female designer. A first!

 For such a large knife it is always a challenge to make sure the edge stays sharp and the blade strong and tough enough to not break. For it TOPS developed its differential heat treatment of the 1095 carbon steel. The edge is heated to the critical temperature, after which only that part is 'shaken off' to make sure it is hardened. As such you end up with an edge that retains its sharpness well, while the spine of the blade is still relatively soft and tough. This combination also ensures that the blade is nice and strong. Ready for some action.

 The 1095 carbon steel is a great type of steel for this treatment. You do, however, need to take the low corrosion resistance of 1095 into account. That is why it is wise to clean it after use and occasionally add a couple drops of oil.

 The handle is made from micarta. This is a strong composite material made from linen and synthetic resin. It feels great in hand, even in wet circumstances. The textile fibres expand a little, improving your grip.

 The TOPS A-Klub comes with a royal kydex sheath with dangler belt loop. Do keep in mind that the retention strap is enhanced with a special button that can only be opened in one direction. You could initially think that the button can't open, but all you have to do is try to open it in the other direction. You will quickly get used to this.
