Reasons to choose Bark River Knives

Handmade and natural materials

At Bark River, experts use many natural materials such as different types of wood, horn and various composite materials, as well as different finishing techniques. These materials can differ from knife to knife. The blades are also shaped by hand on sharpening belts. As a result, each knife is unique. Bark River also produces knives in production runs. As such it can occur that a specific model in a specific combination is produced only twice each year. If a product on our website is therefore listed as 'out of stock' it can take quite some time before it is back in stock again. For this reason, it is also not always possible to order special editions and models.

Convex edges: strop to keep them sharp

Each Bark River knife is given a convex edge. This means the side of the blade smoothly transitions into a razor-sharp edge, with no secondary cutting edge. The result is that the blades look good and that they are stronger than most conventional edges. To maintain the convex edge, Bark River recommends regularly stropping your knife. Of course, Knivesandtools has everything you need to sharpen a convex edge

Bark River Knives series

Bark River Aurora

The Bark River Aurora was designed as an all-round bushcraft knife. Founder of Bark River, Mike Stewart, designed this model himself. One of the things he paid attention to was that regardless of how you hold the knife, you always need to have enough grip.

Bark River Bravo

Bark River Bravo knives are very popular. It is for a reason that Bark River has introduced many different versions within the Bravo collection. From small knives for everyday carry such as the Bravo EDC, to large machetes such as the Bravo Crusader.

Bark River Bushcrafter

The Bark River Bushcrafter was designed as the ultimate bushcraft knife. A nice droppoint blade with a practical edge perfect for bushcraft tasks. It is enhanced with a scandivex grind. This is a combination of the popular scandi grind and Bark River's famous convex grind.

Bark River Gunny

The Bark River Gunny is the second most popular Bark River knife. It is not that surprising that its based on the most popular model: the Bravo 1. Following the popularity of this model, the fans asked Bark River to introduce a slightly more compact version. The Bark River Gunny is exactly that! With a 9.5-cm blade you still have enough to work with while, at the same time, it weighs less and is more compact. The excellent ergonomics remained the same

Bark River Knives: a real family business

For years, Mike Stewart had been working in the knife business for different famous American companies when he noticed that more and more compromises were made in terms of production. Knives were no longer produced the way he would like them to be. That's why he started his own company together with his wife, Lesley Stewart, in 2001. It's a textbook example of a family business. Founders Mike and Lesley Stewart work daily alongside their children Jim and Jacquelyn. Together they guarantee Bark River’s quality, workmanship and integrity. Real 'knives people'! They use their practical experience to create the best knives out there! Regardless of the model Bark River always wants to make sure it is a top-quality product. The best heat treatment, the best modifications and the best grinds. A lot of manual labour, it is hard to comprehend how these knives can be available in this price range. Sometimes they are also called ‘semi-custom’ knives. It is for a reason that Bark River Knives uses a ‘no questions asked’ lifelong warranty.
